Welcome! April News and Updates April 4, 2018 | Uncategorized | No Comments Welcome to the April edition of Hood College’s Counselor Connection. It’s time to begin the countdown to May 1 and mark the end of another school year! We wish you and your students the best with final exams, class registrations, and college decision-making! It’s an exciting time for all of us. In the coming months, we will see a lot of change on Hood’s campus. As another class graduates, and a new class forms to take their place, we’re excited for the transition, and even more excited to welcome the class of 2022 to our Hood family. Nearly 30 students have accepted invitations into our Honors Program, and many more have paid their deposits and secured their spot in our incoming class. Additionally, a number of students have accepted our prestigious full-tuition Chair of the Board scholarship. We’re looking forward to seeing what the Class of 2022 can do! This month, we will be welcoming 52 high school and independent counselors to our campus for the Maryland Crab Crawl – a weeklong tour of all 11 private colleges throughout the state of Maryland! These counselors will have the opportunity to tour our beautiful campus, interact with our amazing students, and get a taste of the delicious food that Downtown Frederick has to offer. If you have not yet had a chance to visit our picturesque campus and downtown city of Frederick, MD, please contact us and we will be happy to help plan your visit. Here are more updates on what’s happening at Hood in April: We are continuing our celebration of our 125th anniversary! Members of the Hood community went to Mt. Oliver Cemetery to renew an old tradition of laying 49 red carnations on our Margaret Hood’s grave (the namesake of Hood College), and begun a new tradition by laying blue carnations on Joseph H. Apple’s grave – the first president of Hood College. There will be a number of other events through the end of the academic year to celebrate this milestone in Hood’s history. Our Coastal and Watershed Studies program is rolling out a summer program for high school students called Exploring a Watershed,” which is a one-week program that allows students to explore and participate in college-level studies of our watershed while collecting water quality data, learning radio telemetry, exploring local forests, and spending some time in our genetics lab! The program runs from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. from June 25-29, and registration is $175. For more information, visit ccws.hood.edu! Our Battle of the Buildings” will take place on April 11, where students from all residence halls compete against one another in various events to win and sign the coveted Pink Spoon, a (quirky) tradition that has been at Hood for years! Countdown to May 1 April 4, 2018 | Uncategorized | No Comments As May 1 quickly approaches, our admission staff is hard at work getting ready for the class of 2022 to join our campus community! Whether your students have deposited, been accepted, or even are still considering applying to Hood, we have numerous visit opportunities for them to see if Hood can be home for their next four years. On Saturday, April 7, we are welcoming about 120 families to campus for Accepted Students’ Day. Prospective students will have the opportunity to meet faculty and staff, sit in on minicourses” in the area of their choosing, interact with current and prospective students alike, and explore our campus! Students are also given the opportunity to spend the night on campus the night before Accepted Students’ Day, where they will be a part of a fun-filled evening with various campus activities to participate in as well as dinner in the dining hall with our current student leaders on campus. If you have any students that have been accepted to Hood College and would like to join in on the fun, encourage them to sign up here! For seniors that have not yet been accepted to Hood, or for underclass students that are beginning their search, we will be holding large group presentations and tours from 10 a.m. until noon on a number of Saturdays – April 14, April 21, and April 28. Additionally, we are open for tours and meetings with an admission counselor every weekday at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. We would love to have your group visit our beautiful campus, so feel free to contact our office at 301-696-3400 to arrange a visit for your students! Additionally, we know that for many students, plans change quickly for post-graduation – and we project that we will have openings for the fall class beyond May 1 for many programs on campus, as well as for first-year housing. If you have a student who might be interested in Hood College, please have them contact us as soon as possible at 301-696-3400 or admission@hood.edu . We’re always happy to welcome new students to our Hood family! Shared Studios Portal April 4, 2018 | Uncategorized | No Comments A visual of the portal courtesy of Shared Studios. Since March 19, we have had an addition to our campus – a large, golden addition! The portal, which will remain on campus until our Accepted Students’ Day on April 7, allows our students, faculty, and staff to communicate with other people in portals across the country and the world! There are a number of opportunities to talk with people from Afghanistan, Mexico, Rwanda, Honduras, and even the United States, among others. Visitors to our portal are invited to participate in open sessions,” which is casual dialogue about anything that participants would like to learn about the other culture! The portals abroad come with translators that allow for efficient communication. Professors are also taking advantage of the portal, having some classes where Hood students will interact and ask questions pertaining to their course and the country on the other end” of our portal. We’re even getting our little ones involved – the children from our child development lab are spending some time in the portal, talking to other children from a daycare in Mexico City. The portal is a great, culturally immersive experience for all ages, and we’re very excited to have this innovative technology on our campus. « Older Entries For More Information About Hood College Admission Requirements – First Year Admission Requirements – Transfer Campus Events Campus Events – Transfer Financial Aid Meet the Admission Staff Archives April 2018 February 2018 December 2017 November 2017 June 2017 May 2017 April 2017 March 2017 February 2017 November 2016 September 2016 May 2016 April 2016 March 2016 top...
